Chilli water
My mum has got searing forefingers for three full hours after preparing a chilli dish. Soaking in water only spread the spice to all of the other fingers. Applying after-sun cooling lotion didn't seem to work either. There was much hissing and whimpering and stamping of feet in the midst of much consternation for an unaffected dad, who was the ungrateful patron of the chilli dish. Still, Dad didn't help to alleviate the bitter laments when he coolly and proudly related how my grandpa was once tortured by Japanese interrogation officers by having chilli water forced down his nose.
Just read of a possible method that salt neutralizes "acids" (?) in the chilli, but mum claims the burn to be subsiding, so didn't get to carry in a basin of salt solution in the fashion of little Jang Geum.
